ICYMI — 20

John headshot Oct2013Well, readers, it seems as if posting this on Monday is becoming more of a habit than I wanted it to. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. As the kids used to say: it just is what it is. Nevertheless, I will continue to post here each week a list of interesting things I found while looking around these internets of ours.

Of course I realize that not everyone celebrates Christmas. I also realize that most people who do celebrate Christmas did it last week — on December 25th. I also realize that nearly everyone resonates with the Christmas spirit and emphases on hospitality and generosity, wishing those sentiments could last all year long. With that in mind, I share with you 25 of the Most Beautiful Literary Quotes about Christmas.

My pal Tim Elmore may not be the most athletic guy I know, but he’s great at seeing life lessons in everything — even his own accidents. For example, he recently busted his face trying to cross the street. But what he gained in wisdom made up for what he lost in dignity.

Lots of parents are still wincing at the thought of what their kids got them for Christmas. Yes, we know that it’s the thought that counts, but we may secretly wish they had better thoughts than what ended up under the tree. Annie Fox has been doing some thinking, and she’s come up with a list of gifts her children have given her — things that weren’t found under the tree but are now found in her heart.

Sometimes, in a marriage, the “big” things get all our attention (sex and parenting and finances). Those things are important, but — more often than not — it’s the little things that go unnoticed. These little things can accumulate and add up exponentially and erode the foundation of your relationship. Unless you’re careful. Lee Gaitan recently discovered one little thing about her husband that makes her love him even more. And it only took her 11 years! Still…it’s better late than never.

Finally, everyone here at ScreamFree is looking forward to the next Pixar movie, “Inside Out”. The only bad thing is it doesn’t come out until July. If you’ve ever looked at someone and thought, “What are you thinking?”, then this trailer is for you.

Okay, that’s it for this week. Now you tell me: What did I miss?
