Slow Down, You Move Too Fast

Too many of us end up collapsed on the couch exhausted at the end of yet another day spent checking as many things off our “to do” list as we possibly can. The sad truth is that many of the things on that list don’t really matter that much. What matters most are the people we end up treating as objects to be dealt with rather than people to be with. We trade important things (like playing outside or reading a good book) for urgent things (like signing up for more activities!). There should never be a day when you’re running so fast that your family becomes a blur in your rearview mirror. But it happens — all too often.Maybe today you could just take a few moments to just sit still and remember what’s important and what’s good in the world. If you don’t schedule those moments, they’re not likely to just happen. Do whatever works for you: pause right now, grab a cup of coffee, gaze out the window, take a breath. Sure, you might not check as many items off your “to do” list today, but you’ll be a much more pleasant person. And that, in and of itself, is a step towards feelin’ groovy.
