This past weekend I had the honor of teaching a great group of veteran couples our full-day seminar on ScreamFree Marriage. As a custom, I ask around to see who’s been married the longest amount of time. To much applause, an adorable couple announced they had just recently celebrated 55 years.

“Wow,” I said. “You guys should be up here teaching, not me!”

“Nah, we’ve still got a lot to learn,” came the wife’s beautifully humble reply.

At that point a crowd member asked aloud, “What’s your secret?”

After a brief pause, the husband made quite the pronouncement:

“Keep your fights clean…and your sex dirty.”

I don’t think the audience needed to hear anything else from me all day.

Peace begins with pause,
