Bring on the New

“The undertaking of new action brings new strength.” (Evenius)

We stand on the cusp of a new year, and that means lots of people are thinking about areas where the past failed to live up to their expectations and how different they want the next 12 months to be. It may be trite, but it’s true: trying the same things over and over while expecting different results is the best definition of insanity.

It’s insane to think that the 101st time you have the same argument with your six-year-old (or your 16-year-old) about her homework, she’ll suddenly see your point and thank you for your wisdom. Saying “I told you so” a million times to your spouse rarely results in learning, growth, or gratitude. Working 80 hours a week hasn’t gotten you what you want most in life.

If you’re tired of the same old, same old…try something different, for Pete’s sake. Try anything different. Try the opposite of what you’ve been doing. You’ll find the change of pace and the newness of your attitude will give you the energy that just might snap the tug of war you’ve been a part of for longer than you care to admit.
