Today is a Monday. Nothing we can do about that.
Some of you are still buried beneath mountains of snow drifts, with shovels calling your name. Nothing you can do about that.
This week I’m officially entering my mid-40s. Nothing I can do about that.
Reality can, indeed, bite. But usually it only barks. Like a dog chained in the basement, reality beckons for our attention: hear me, feed me, love me. Try as we might to ignore it, reality will always bark until it gets our attention. What usually turns the bark into a bite is whenever we pretend it’s not there.
So, just for today, let’s throw reality a bone. You facing a tough meeting? Embrace it. You swimming in a world of debt? Admit it. You facing a necessary confrontation with your spouse, or ex-spouse? Accept it, and then prepare for it.
No journey of change ever began from somewhere other than the reality of where we are right now.
