Moving On

“Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

So…at some point in time this year you messed up in a major way. You blew it big time, and now you feel as if all your hard work has been thrown down the drain. What do you do?

You give yourself a break, and you move on.

It’s curious that we tell our kids that mistakes are made so that we can learn, but we so often fail to take our own words to heart. You are going to make mistakes. There is no question about that. The only question that matters is how you will handle yourself when you do. Will you throw up your hands in resignation? Or will you learn the lessons you need to learn and move forward?

Emerson also said you should, “Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can.” And keep moving on.

  1. This short blog post has hit my heart. I feel like I give up on myself when I really should be living each day anew and giving myself a break.
