Yes, they look so angelic when they first arrive — well, maybe after a little clean up. But there is that moment when you hold your little bundle in your arms, and you’re convinced she’s an angel straight from heaven.

When we place our children on this type of pedestal, however, we may not realize how we’re actually robbing them of the freedom to be human. The freedom to take risks and make mistakes. The freedom to receive blessings from us, without us needing them to be divine for our benefit.

Kids are precious gifts from above, but they are in no way perfect. They will fail, over and over again, as they struggle to grow into their own humanity.
